Press Release HARRISBURG —Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Robert A. Gleason, Jr. was joined at a press conference announcing the kick off of our Party’s statewide voter registration efforts today by Republican Party of Pennsylvania Voter Registration Chairman John McNally, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Vice-Chairman Joyce Haas, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Central Caucus Co-Chair Dick Stewart, Senator Jake Corman, Representatives Mike Turzai, Matt Baker, Scott Perry, Mike Fleck, Sue Helm, and Kathy Rapp, Congressional candidate Toni Gilhooley, and other Republican elected officials. Chairman Gleason remains confident that our Party’s efforts to register Republican voters after the Primary will be successful.“The Republican Party of Pennsylvania is committed to reaching out to every single voter that temporarily switched Party registration and welcome them back to the GOP,” Gleason said. “I am confident that the bump in Democrat registration is directly tied to people casting their ballot in the bitterly contested Democrat Presidential election, and does not represent a mass ideological shift or a sign that Pennsylvanians are all of a sudden in favor of higher taxes, increased government spending, and a retreat from the War on Terror. In fact, if our Party’s roles were reversed and candidates from the Republican Party were involved in a heated Primary, I trust both sides agree we would have experienced similar gains in our registration numbers.”
Over the next few weeks, the Republican Party of Pennsylvania is planning to use our grassroots network of volunteers to launch a comprehensive voter registration drive. The Party will be providing our volunteers with a list of voters who switched political affiliations and our volunteers will be contacting them and urging them to re-register Republican.
Republican Party of Pennsylvania Voter Registration Chairman John McNally added, “Registering voters requires commitment and a lot of hard work and that is something the Republican Party has never avoided. We will be working within our networks of grassroots volunteers to contact each and every one of the voters who switched their Party registration, remind them why they were Republicans in the first place, express that there is plenty of room under our big tent and that we want them back; we will then get a voter registration form into their hands so they can easily re-register Republican.”
Chairman Gleason concluded, “It is clear that millions of people, Republicans, Democrats and Independents, are waiting for November to cast their vote for John McCain and the principled Republican candidates running for every office on the ballot. The Democrat Party and their candidates do not have an agenda that the average Pennsylvanian supports. With Senator McCain at the top of our ticket, we anticipate securing big Republican victories in elected office from the White House to the State House. Please visit www.pagop.org to find out how to register Republican today.”
